Chery Automobile Co., Ltd. is one of China’s most export-focused car manufacturers. Founded in 1997 by the Chinese Government and headquartered in Wuhu, Anhui Province, Chery began producing passenger cars in 1999 and started exporting just two years later. For 19 consecutive years, Chery held the title of China’s largest vehicle exporter — a record that reflects its enormous global ambition and operational scale.
Chery arrived in South Africa with a strong product offering centred on its Tiggo SUV line-up — the Tiggo 4 Pro, Tiggo 7, Tiggo 7 Pro, Tiggo 7 Executive, and Tiggo 8 Pro. These vehicles have been widely praised by South African automotive media for punching well above their price points in terms of features, interior quality, and driving dynamics. The Tiggo 4 Pro in particular was praised as “a no-brainer” by local reviewers at its launch price point.
The brand has grown rapidly in SA, recording cumulative sales of 2,210 units in October 2025 alone. Chery also operates a Trans-national Warranty Programme from 2026, allowing Chery owners to access warranty support internationally. The local dealer network spans major urban centres including Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Pretoria, and beyond, with representation through both dedicated Chery dealers and groups like Group1 Auto and CFAO Mobility.
