The Chery KP31 is Chery’s upcoming entry into South Africa’s double-cab bakkie segment — claiming the world-first title as the world’s first diesel plug-in hybrid bakkie. Built on a new Kaitan ladder-frame chassis at approximately 5,450 mm in length, targeting the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger.

The powertrain combines a 2.5-litre turbodiesel with an electric motor (approximately 260 kW / 680 Nm combined). Expected SA arrival is late 2026 or early 2027. Chery SA’s early-2026 agreement to acquire Nissan’s former Rosslyn plant positions the KP31 as potentially locally produced.
