The GWM Steed 5 is the model that started it all — GWM’s original entry into the South African market back in 2007. Positioned at the entry level of the GWM bakkie range, the Steed 5 is a no-frills, hard-working single or double cab that prioritises payload capacity, affordability, and running economy over luxury.
Available with a 2.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (78 kW / 190 Nm) or a 2.0-litre VGT turbodiesel (110 kW / 340 Nm), the Steed 5 targets farmers, contractors, and tradespeople. A one-tonne payload capacity, ladder-frame chassis, and 4WD option on select derivatives make it a credible worksite companion.
